Communications and Public Relations Specialist with icipe
Overview
icipe - African Insect Science For Food And Health (www.icipe.org) is seeking an Encore Volunteer to develop and monitor the implementation of an appropriate strategy on the use of technology in communications and public relations (PR) that will support the current and future needs of the Centre. icipe is an independent, intergovernmental organization funded by government aid agencies, UN organizations and private foundations to carry out research and training in the environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improving health and agricultural productivity in Africa.
Location: icipe's headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya
Length of assignment: 3-6 months, based on fulfillment of goals
Start date: TBD, as soon as possible
Responsibilities: • Review the Centre’s current PR tools – including the website and journal • Prepare a communications and PR strategy and plans for implementation • Formulate and implement policy guidelines for the use of communications and PR technologies and long term storage of data in conformity with the Centre’s overall policy. • Develop a strategy and manage the implementation of systems to support the modernization and integration of data from scientific research and from the information resource center.
Qualifications:
• A masters degree in Science or a related field • Five years experience in communications and/or PR with a focus on the use of technology • Experience with an international organization / working outside country of origin strongly preferred • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary environment. • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team
Costs: Airfare, emergency medical evacuation insurance, room/board and local transportation for the assignment will be provided. Volunteers are asked to cover the cost of their passport, visa and vaccinations, and maintain their own health insurance. Any personal travel is at the volunteer's expense.

Finance and Accounting IT Specialist with icipe
Overview
icipe - African Insect Science For Food And Health (www.icipe.org) is seeking an Encore Volunteer to review the Centre’s finance and accounting IT systems, recommend any new investments, then implement and train staff in their use and maintenance. The position encompasses all aspects of finance and accounting for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and not for profit organizations (NPOs). icipe is an independent, intergovernmental organization funded by government aid agencies, UN organizations and private foundations to carry out research and training in the environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improving health and agricultural productivity in Africa.
Location: icipe's headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya
Length of assignment: 3-6 months, based on fulfillment of goals
Start date: TBD, as soon as possible
Responsibilities:
• Review the Centre’s current IT systems to manage finance and accounting. • Based on the review, identify and recommend areas for possible further investment in IT systems related to accounting and finance. • Develop and implement any new systems and train department staff. • Advise on the selection and implementation of an online integrated ERP system with special reference to purchasing functions, grants, projects management, HR/payroll management • Evaluate icipe financial accounting, management accounting and treasury management systems in line with its financial policies and procedures and advise on its adequacy in meeting current and future needs of the Centre
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate and/or graduate degree(s) in Finance and Accounting, CPA / ACCA • Minimum 10 years experience in NGOs/NPOs • Knowledge of grants management of a large NGO/NPO • Good knowledge in the development and implementation of integrated ERP systems • Wide knowledge on cash management • Familiarity with current International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) applicable to NGOs/NPOs • Experience with an international organization / working outside country of origin strongly preferred • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary environment. • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team

Overview
icipe - African Insect Science For Food And Health (www.icipe.org) is seeking an Encore Volunteer to develop and monitor the implementation of an appropriate information technology (IT) strategy that will support the current and future IT needs of the Centre. This plan will involve multiple departments, including HR, procurement, and transport. icipe is an independent, intergovernmental organization funded by government aid agencies, UN organizations and private foundations to carry out research and training in the environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improving health and agricultural productivity in Africa.
Location: icipe's headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya

Responsibilities:
• Review the Centre’s current IT and communications systems, including telephony. • Prepare in support of icipe's information services requirements an IT and communications strategy, policies and plans and ensure their implementation. • Manage and train a group of information services professionals responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining icipe’s information services. • Provide advice and guidance on the enhancement of icipe’s management information services (MIS). • Manage the financial resources allocated to the Division and plan budgets to ensure adequate financial resources are available to maintain and develop icipe’s information services. • Formulate and implement policy guidelines for the development and maintenance of IT systems in conformity with the Centre’s overall policy.
Qualifications:
• Education/training - Masters degree in science, business or related field • Work related experience - 10 years of experience in Information technology in an International or commercial organization • Skills - Excellent project management, HR and financial management, and analytical communication skills are critical to the success of this position. • Experience with an international organization / working outside country of origin strongly preferred • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary environment. • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team

Responsibilities: • Review the Centre’s current IT systems to manage human resources (HR) including compensation, benefits, recruiting, training, performance evaluation, and various other human resources related schemes. • Based on the review, identify and recommend areas for possible further investment in IT systems related to HR. • Develop and implement any new systems and train department staff. This includes maintenance of computerized information systems and other records, the preparation of regular and special reports and the management of the department’s financial resources. • Responsible for developing and monitoring the department’s budgets, to assure the effective and efficient use of financial resources within budget guidelines. • Provide information, consultation and training to supervisors and staff concerning the various human resource functions and programs.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human resource management, business or related field. • Minimum 10 year related work experience including a range of IT systems to manage human resources, and at least 5 years in a senior position managing an organization’s computerized human resource functions. • Experience with an international organization / working outside country of origin strongly preferred • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary environment. • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team
